NEW FELLOWSHIP CALL 2026

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP CALL FOR 2026–2028 (closed for applications)

Applications for GreenLab's Fellowship Programme is now closed. We have recieved +33 appilcations and are now in the process of selecting three final fellowship candidates.

The programme is made possible through a donation from Villum Fonden for a collaboration between GreenLab and the Danish universities, led by DTU. The collaboration supports mission-driven research that advances the green transition in practice.

From concept to documented impact: Implementing sector-coupled energy systems through eco-industrial parks
Industrial decarbonisation is a complex challenge that cannot be solved by a single technology or discipline. It requires new ways of linking energy sectors, new models for infrastructure and regulation, and a deeper understanding of the real-world impact of eco-industrial clusters. This fellowship call focuses on how sector coupling, microgrids and industrial symbioses can be implemented, tested and assessed to accelerate the green transition.

Using GreenLab’s industrial cluster in Skive as a living laboratory, the fellowship programmes offers researchers a unique opportunity to explore systemic solutions with direct applicability to industry, policy, and society.

An individual and collaborative project
The fellowship programme runs from August 2026 to June 2028 and invites individual researchers to propose projects within the thematic scope of the call. Fellows will work both independently and collaboratively, drawing on GreenLab’s research platform, the SymbiosisNetTM and partnerships across the Danish universities.

Examples of research themes include:

  • Sustainability and holistic impact assessment
  • Infrastructure, data and ecosystem development
  • Regulation, policy frameworks and energy sandboxes
  • Business models and ownership structures for microgrids and eco-industrial parks
  • Social acceptance and stakeholder engagement

Other ideas within the overall theme are welcome. Applicants are encouraged to discuss potential directions with GreenLab before submitting an application.

Applicants from outside Denmark are encouraged to apply and the project team is ready to assist with connecting to a Danish university and any other practicalities in connection to the stay in Denmark.

A unique opportunity for mission-driven research and interdisciplinarity
The fellowship programme is designed for researchers who want to work across disciplines and contribute to solutions that have real impact. GreenLab provides an exceptional environment where academic research meets industrial practice, enabling fellows to:

  • Explore sector coupling and industrial symbiosis through real-world cases
  • Test ideas in a large-scale living lab and collaborate with industry partners
  • Contribute to the development of global models for sustainable industrial clusters
  • Join a strong research community working at the intersection of energy systems, regulation, sustainability and technology
